A GICLEE PRINT
The word "Giclee" (pronounced ghee-clay, as in "gee") typically refers to a limited edition, digital reproduction of two-dimensional artwork on high quality paper or canvas with fine art inks. A Giclee should have a predictable lifespan which is of an "archival" nature.
The printing process begins with the original piece of artwork, which is captured through a highly sophisticated digital imaging process and then taken through an in-depth digital process. Because no screens are used, the prints have a higher apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like that of a serigraphy. The artist's color approval and input are essential for creating the final custom setting for the edition. Giclee prints should be treated like any other piece of fine art, they should be protected from excessive light, moisture and heat.
